Assign a section to extension?

Is there a way I can assign a section to my extension?

The problem is when I delete the cache and re-enter the page for my extension it messes up a lot of other pages on my site. Messes up means they are empty.

I am thinking that if I could assign a section, I could account for that section in the code determining what is displayed in those other areas of my site.
