How come do you hardcode this path
it would be better to have this configurable.
Then I can set ezpublish up without su permissions on a linux system

You can set the path to the var directory in the site.ini file.

I don't think that you need su permissions to install eZ publish with the standard folder settings either. Or am I missing something obvious here?
