I´m trying to change in pagelayout.tpl in my design folder. I made a copy of "standard" in the installation and specified it in site.ini. Sometimes it works when I make changes in other tpl-files but I cant see non of them I´m trying to do in pagelayout.tpl. Caching is off. Any ideas?

I would take a look at the document on the ezwiki site that explains the order how the program loads pages - it sounds like you have a problem in the fact another template is overiding the one you are changing.
