Pre-registration implementation

I have to implement a pre-registration system that asks for a
name and password that is stored in a content class (i.e. the class could refer to an object company with different fields and 2 of these fields are registration_access_login).
If those fields matches, user can access to a registration form that stores
automatically company information and then sets automatically the user in a specific user group that depends to the company information (i.e. the user becomes the editor for those specific company section in the site).
Anyone as some suggestions to start and take the simplest way to do this?
Is it possible to parametrically assign a user group inside the registration mechanism?
