2 or more sites sharing the same user base?

Hi, if I want to run 2 or more community sites (different domains, not sub-domains), must I require my users to re-register on all the forums?

If there's a workaround, is there a way that my vistors will not have to re-enter their user name & password on other forums?

Hi Sam,

You could try using the same database but different sections (and perhaps main nodes) for the various sites.

Interesting... but can different sections handle completely different domains?

Say, http://www.domain1.com/ points to domain1 section
http://www.domain2.com/ points to domain2 section
http://www.domain3.com/ points to domain3 section.

Hi,

You can accomplish this by altering the Apache httpd.conf file. Point all domains to the same dir (where the eZP installation resides) and use siteaccess from there one (host matching).

Thanks for your help.

But I have another ignorant question...

You said, "You can accomplish this by altering the Apache httpd.conf file. Point all domains to the same dir (where the eZP installation resides) and use siteaccess from there one (host matching)."

If I alert Apache httpd.conf, will the URL redirect from http://www.domain1.com/ to http://www.domain2.com/ezp_install_directory/ ?

Are you a ezpublish developer?

Hi Sam,

No, the URL will not redirect, but rather point to the ezp distribution .

So, in essence, you could get http://www.domain1.com/ and http://www.domain2.com/ezp_install to return the same page. And when you alter their respective site accesses, you can get them to use different main nodes and site designs, but still use the same db.

> Are you a ezpublish developer?

I do not belong to the eZ systems crew if that's what you mean, but I have a fair amount of experience setting up ez sites.

BTW, could you mind posting your website URL here? I want to send your profile to my boss if he's interested in migrating to ezPublish system for our websites.

Hi Sam,

Actually, I currently don't maintain a web site targeted towards an international audience. However, feel free to forward my email adress (eirik [at] netmaking [dot] no) to your boss, and don't hesitate to email me for reference project details.

Hi Eirik,

I tried to send you to the address mentioned in your last post, but the server kept rejecting my mail.
This is the error message.

Hi Sam,

You contact Ian sent me an Email earlier this week which I replied to right away. However, the email was returned to me today by the mail server which timed out trying to send my email. I've tried to resend the message, but would you be as kind as to notify him of the error as I expect he is waiting for my response.

Thanks in advance !

Hi all,

I'd like to create one big site in admin, but have it divided up into country-specific sites on the web (with or without unique domains, ie, subdomains are fine), and then city-specific sites within each country-site.

I guess the difficult bit will be to make all the sites run off the same admin, user db, and content base (though content would be flagged as relevant to particular countries/cities). Does anyone know how to do this sort of thing in Ez?

Best,

Adrian
