Access to exPublish database via API, WebDav or direct to data model ?

Hello,

What is the best way to access stored documents in ezPublish ? How mature is the Webdav implementation, or is there an API that can be used ?

the webdav is unfortunatelly not mature yet

If it is not mature, why is it listed as a feature of ez publish.
