Difference between $node.node_id and $module_result.node_id

Hi,

i would like to know what's the difference between '$node.node_id' and '$module_result.node_id' ?

The variable $node is not available within the pagelayout.tpl file and the $module_result.node_id variable is available within the for mentioned template file.
