Force a site design in a workflow event?

We can generate the PDF (a slight modification of the code from kernel/content/pdf.php did the trick), but it always reads the pdf templates from the standard design. Is there any way we can force a certain sitedesign in the workflow event for the pdf generation, regardless of the 'current' sitedesign?
