Do you use a custom template for browsing, if so, you have to pass the main_node_id with a post variable.
I use <input type="hidden" name="MainNodeID" value="{$object.main_parent_node_id}" /> for this. If not, please give like Paul said, a more concret example. Greetings, Thomas
