Anyone can enlighten me why eZ publish did not choose to use gettext?

currently, eZ uses an i18n text translation system modified from the Qt one. I just wonder why not use gettext directly, as it is a built-in feature of php.

IMO binary files of translation are faster than caching text in php files.

AFAICT, gettext can be used in windows as well

Hi Liu

I have no idea why they've chosen for the current translation system, but the gettext extension for PHP is not enabled on every shared hosting. Of course they could have implemented the gettext functions in PHP and use these functions in case the extension is not enabled, like they did with the DOM XML extension.
