Importing content nodes to ez Publish

I suppose I need to build a customed PHP application to do the import - that's not a problem. I have a database containing address information which I'd like to import to ez Publish as nodes of customed "address card" content class. In addition to the address cards, I'd like to import also the groups we have collected the address cards as Folders to ez Publish where the cards could be then located. I suppose this does not differ from importing any node? How about performance of ez Publish. Is it good idea to import 200-300 address cards as content nodes to the system instead of making a custom module to access the database? Anyway - the main question: how to import content nodes from external application or system?
