I have an application for e.g. retrieving information
on trouble tickets, infrastructure asset details etc.
I have to integrate my ezPublish portal with this application and make use of the backend database.
Is it possible to integrate my ezPublish portal with an external database ?
What technology should I suppose to use for accomplishing this?
What alternatives would there be?

You could use SOAP/XMLRPC or PHP if the backend app is PHP. For the latter, you could also integrate the backend app as extension.
