Plugging in external authentication

Hello all,

I wonder if it is possible to plug external authentication into ez. What I mean is that I want to implement a single-sign-on system. I can keep the user/role management of ezPublish, I just want to defer the actual password checking to own code.

Is this possible at all?

What would it take to implement it?
