Greetings,

I've recently been asked to work on some else's eZ publish 3.5 installation.

I set out to complete the work only to find that their eZ publish installation had a very serious problem. Sure the site works in almost every way properly except

The roles and permissions page displays properly ( admin.example.org/role/list ) but does not list any roles, not even the default eZ publish roles (like administrator, anonymous, etc). I also can not create or edit the default eZ publish roles (like administrator which exists but does display on /role/list).

I receive the following error message : from /role/edit/0)

The requested page could not be displayed. (3)
The requested object is not available.

Possible reasons:

    * The ID number of the object is incorrect. Please check the URL for spelling mistakes.
    * The object is no longer available.

I don't know what could possibly be causing the error. This is the first time I've ever encountered this problem. I'm not sure just what could be missing, incomplete or corrupted that would cause a problem like this.

fyi, I am logged into eZ publish as the 'admin' user and the rest of the admin works properly. Any suggestions, questions and feedback would be most appreciated. I'd really like to manually repair the problem if at all possible instead of reinstalling eZ publish from scratch and rebuilding the site, design and content.

Try to repair all db tables... sometimes mysql tables become locked or unreadable by the server... this might have happend

What does
SELECT * FROM `ezrole` give you?

Note:
If the roles are broke, they might be still cached... that's why you can login.

B,

Yeah, I thought about that first too!
This is what i get ....

mysql> SELECT * FROM `ezrole`;
+----+---------+---------------+-------+
| id | version | name | value |
+----+---------+---------------+-------+
| 1 | 0 | Anonymous | |
| 2 | 0 | Administrator | * |
| 3 | 0 | Editor | |
+----+---------+---------------+-------+
3 rows in set (0.04 sec)

hrm...

Doh there has never been a bug like that...

It seems I can't help much...

I say setup everything again...

how does th code behave with the clean/inital db kernel?

It should behave different.

Björn,

I was using a clean kernel / mostly / basically default configuration. So i'm going to just say the database was hosed, corrupted, screwed up.

I back-ported my content & design into a stock eZ publish 3.5 and wouldn't you know it, I don't have any more problems :)

Well, that not entirely true,
I have serious problems (don't we all),
but no more problems with eZ publish (stock) regarding this problem.

Thanks for your suggestions, they are much appreciated!

cheers,
