can I delete the var folder?

I am setting up WinCVS to control the versioning of the various files I edit (mostly .ini, .tpl and .php). My question is: can I exclude all the files under var from the versioning and backup process? Are they all able to be regenerated?

I am afraid I do not have the courage to delete the var folder just to see if this is true in case it messes up the database or some other aspect of ezPublish.

Hi,

Don`t delete this folder

Contains cache files and logs. In addition, 
it also contains images and files (site specific content). 
Obviously, this directory will grow in size.
