Your ISP has no clue about security. If that were true, they'd better not use OpenSSH either. If there were security implications with zlib, that would be known and they'd have been patched when they got public. Its one of the more often used libs, after all. Or maybe they just don't install patches, which means you want to change ISPs very fast. Besides, at least on FreeBSD, you can't even install PHP with mysql without installing zlib as well.
