I downloaded ezpublish_livecd_1.1-3.5.1.iso and tried to make a live CD.

one way, I just burnt this downloaded file (only one iso file) on a CD. Inserted the CD into my cd-rom, but couldn't boot my computer from it.

Anothor way, I unzipped this iso file first, and burnt all of the unzipped files on a CD then. But it still can't boots up.

What's wrong? or how to make the eZ Publish LiveCD correctly?

Josh,

I believe this problem lies in just 'how' your burn the iso to cd.

I see you have already burned the entire iso (image file) as a single file onto cd, which is burning but just not the right way for booting :)

Try to find a function which will burn cd from iso. Almost all popular burning programs support his feature (Easy Cd Creator, Nero, k3b, ..)

I would not try unzipping the files and then burning those, even if it 'could/might'... cause I don't think it would work :)

In Easy CD Creator, under the file menu, select "Record CD from CD Image", In the open file dialog, switch the file type from (display limiter) from *.cif to *.iso, Select the eZ publish LiveCD iso file and burn away :)

Hope this helps,

Hi Kracker,

You are right. I have made the live cd with Easy CD Creator. It works now! I can run and start testing eZ publish directly from the cd. Thanks!

A new question:
When booting from the ezpublish lice cd the system is going to working interface automaticly with default user account ?guest?. Then it can?t turn off computer when you click Logout.... Sometimes can restart computer but sometimes not. So anything wrong? And how to switch to my harddisk system?

I know ;)

The eZ publish :: <b>LiveCD</b>, is really intended for new users who would like to try eZ publish out for the first time without having to hassle with installing or configuring eZ publish.

Also, since the LiveCD is a bootable cdrom disk you can't realistically edit / keep your changes while using it.

I personally have had mixed results using this brand / distribution of LiveCD. I'm not knocking it, it is what it is, though I have had odd little performance problems using it on a fairly power full laptop (1GB Ram, mobile p4 2.4GHZ ... which was humorously purchased from consulting income from only eZ publish (GNU GPL) development and support ;)

The answer is here I think is to move you to a hard disk based system. I would point you to the eZ publish installers, which can provide you with all the server software you need to get started with a disk based system (I highly recommend using a linux based system for the best performance): http://www.ez.no/ez_publish/download

Hi kracker,

What I really want is to test eZ publish and get some experience. That is a good suggestion to use eZ publish installers. I will create a new working envirenment on hard disk. Thanks a lot!

<i>I think</i>, you'll be much more pleased with a true development environment that you can customize, configure and extend :)

Also, to better explain some of my alluded to opinions. I would like to see an eZ publish LiveCD based on <b>Ubuntu or Kubuntu</b> which I find simply the best Bootable LiveCD Distribution I've ever seen (no surprise, the guy funding the project is a bit eccentric :)

I also wish to see the individual files added, removed, altered to the existing eZ publish LiveCD to be documented / listed (aka a diff vs the upstream LiveCD project) and those very alterations to be made available in source code form perhaps via svn, to enable others who wish to build a near identical clone of the original eZ publish LiveCD using a different backend distribution to be able to do so simply.

I thought that source code availability was a requirement of a modified and publicly redistributed GNU GPL software package? I have not yet seen or heard of the availability of these sources from which the eZ publish LiveCD is directly built from; Perhaps I've gone to far ... or not far enough :)

Rule of Thumb: <i>Compete against yourself not others ...</i>

Happy Hacking!
