Adding a Link class to left menu

Could someone please tell me why when I add a link object in my root folder it doesn't show up in my Left Menu?

I have set anon permissions, but this shouldn't be the problem...

check out settings/menu.ini
links arent one of the classes by default shown in the left nav (although you can add it to the file above)
