Commercial Use?

Hello World,

I have been searching the net, extensively, for a good CMS with all the features I find necessary to be useful. Alas, I found eZ Publish (ezp). I installed the open-source version of ezp and was able to get through all of the documentation with a clear understanding of the theory behind it all. However, once I attempted to go through the "Building" documentation in actual practice, I found that I was unable to get everything up and running as suggested.

I am using version 3.4 and am noticing that the documentation is quite inaccurate with this version. I understand that ezp is open-source software, and that documentation is the single most neglected aspect of any good software package in the open-source arena, but I am looking for a full software package that is well supported, so I can use it as a tool to provide our clients with a great solution. I don't want to guess at how to use the tool.

My company has already, by my recommendation, approved the purchase of the professional license, and has agreed to dedicate resources to learning, mastering, and extending ezp. I want this to be a beneficial acquisition for our company, our clients, and the ezp community at large. However, I need to be assured that there is proper documentation available at a commercial level. I need to be positive that along with the purchase of the professional license that absolutely everything in the ezp package has been well tested, optimized, and documented.

Can anyone on the ezp team give me some assurances to these concerns?
Does anyone know if the recently release book on ezp3 is up to date with the latest release?
Does anyone know of any third-party documentation, tutorials, or walkthroughs for ezp 3.4?
Will future versions of ezp require purchase of new documentation just to stay abreast of the changes?

Thank you all for any help you can provide.

Kindests,

Hi

Some answers :

We fully agree documentation is one of your weakest areas at the moment. We're going to start working on making it up to date with every version in the next couple of weeks.

The eZ publish book is up to date with the 3.4 realese.

3.rd party sites :
http://pubsvn.ez.no/
http://ezpub.co.uk/

The documentation changes we're going to make will among other things solve functionality changes between versions.

Kåre Køhler Høvik,

Thank you very much for the mention of eZ Pub!

We are racing to meet the community's need for a 3rd party eZ publish 3 community.
We really get that warm fuzzy feeling when an eZ systems staff or anyone else for that matter recommends the eZ Pub.

Stuart DH has just posted an updated thread talking about recent changes at eZ Pub:
