Can eZpublish webshop be set up to handle downloadable products eg. audio files, software etc. I have looked through the documentation and can find no mention of it.

Yes, this is possible.

We have done this with our MediaBase product ( http://ez.no/products/solutions_and_software/mediabase ). Here you do an order of a file (picture, video, doc and other), and you go through the basket. Then when the order is approver you'll recieve an email with the link to where you can download your order.
