Extending double top menu to show third level

I haven't found any docs or forum post that deal with this issue. I know about the TopDrop extension but I prefer to to used a more updated template/code. Thanks in advance if anyone responds. I want to be able to hover over top menu to reveal second level menu and hover over second level menu to reveal the menu items under that. I am, because I choose to be!
