how do I record dates of birth in user registration that are older than 1970

I've added a date of birth field to the User class.

However I can't enter dates that are before 1970.

Can you tell me how I can overcome this please?

You can use the birthday datatype.

Andy, you should download and install the extension Theodoros mentioned (you'll probably find the instructions in the extension files), and then you will have a new datatype for your classes that can be used for birth date.
