How to add a field for subtopic when submitting content

We'd like to add a filed for "subtopic" when a user upload an article to our site. currently we have afield called "Topic" we 'd like to add another field under it called subtopic. Can it be achieved thru template/ table column field. Can any one point me to some documenation which can help me achieve it.

You can edit the class itself (Setup > Advanced > Classes > Content) and add another Text Line named subtopic. That should provide you the functionality.
