Links embedded in articles/folders etc are not displaying

For example - if I try to insert a weblink into the xml text field of an article (or folder, or file etc), the link word shows up in site view, but you cannot click on it. In terms of fixes, I have tried playing around with both the templates and the ini settings, but nothing appears to have worked. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Howdy all,
