Notification/newsletter upon creation of objects

Hi all!

I need to make one of two things:

1) create a notification system that sends mail to all registered users whenever an objecy of a certain type is created

2) make a newsletter sent e.g. once a day, that summarizes the objected created since the last letter

Any ideas or advice is nice!
