Additional workflows, editing user attributes

I´ll try to keep it simple:

I want to realise a shop system that uses a point system.
The points are a additional user attribute.

If the user publishes specific objectclass,
his point account should be decreased by 1.

What's the right way to do this?

Should a use an extension and publish the object there or should I use a template operator to incease the point account?

In addition I need some workflows if this object is edited that send some mails.
