Best Sell list and related purchase

Hi there,

I want to modify the best_sell_list and related_purchase fetch function.
I found them in the kernel/shop/ezshopfunctioncollection.php.

I could modify the code, but this is not update safe, so I was thinking about writting an extension. But can we extend or rewrite a kernel function for an existing module by creating an extension ? If yes, does someone can provide me an extension example that already do that kind of things ?
