Create a module

Hi everyone,
Is there any documentation any where on how to create a new module. I basically need to use old php scripts and incorporate them with in eZ.
To do this i thought that the best way would be to create a new module, which can then be called from the template system using the fetch function. Within this new module would be includes to my existing php scripts, that then get returned by the module and printed to the template via the fetch function.

Is this at all possible?
