Design keys in other than pagelayout template

Is it a way to use the design keys, exp. $uri_string, in other than the pagelayout template. I try to cache content for different pages by using:

{cache-block keys=$uri_string}
     {attribute_view_gui attribute=$node.object.data_map.wysindhold}
{/cache-block}

This doesn’t work when its not the pagelayout template you working with.
