eZ Publish in .NET ?

Hi,

I have developping with eZ Publish and .NET for several months now ... and I have been dreaming of a "best of the two worlds" approach (because I DO love eZ Publish :-P )

I know this might sound funny (please all PHP fans, don't blame me) but has any member of eZ crew thought in porting eZ Publish to .NET or developping the next release in .NET ?

Why ?

- C# is one of the best languages available, and provides fast and efficient OO programming.

- It is easy to implement Web Services and B2B interfaces (one could imagine that eZ Publish could serve e-banking accounts ...)

- Native AJAX-like components and easy to develop AJAX features with AJAX.net library. Microsoft has also started a project called Atlas (http://atlas.asp.net)

- Performance ! We can clearly see the limits of PHP/MySQL in scalability compared to .NET ...

- Pricing shouldn't be a problem since .NET applications can now run under Linux with MONO and there are several free .NET IDEs.

- .NET is very "trendy", thanks to Micro$oft marketing, so it is easier to sell an application written in .NET

OK, now come and debate with me :)

Trust me, it's not gonna happen.

First of all, .NET is horribly supported outside Windows and no, Mono is NOT the answer right now. Java would likely not have this issue but the next thing remains:

The issues with a port to another language are HUGE. Porting it to a new language all the while remaining backwards compatible is simply not feasible in my view.

Hi,

We are currently working on a similiar CMS as eZ Publish, but it will run on .NET 2.0 (C#) with MS SQL 2005. We have already had a few beta-releases and it's looking great so far (=good feedback); good gui, great performance, easy to use both for users and developers. Of course, it will be open source and free.

We're launching it November/December, a couple of weeks after the .NET 2.0 final release. I will keep you informed.

Great! I'm really looking forward to test this .NET CMS :)

Give us the url when the publish system .NET is live.

@Gabriel : As far as I know, eZ is rewriting the entire code of eZ Publish for version 4, so the effort would be almost the same.

@Awa : sounds intersting. Don't forget to give us the URL.
