Re-ordering a ezmatrix in edit view

I have an override for the ezmatrix.tpl file because I added in some javascript but overall it is a out of box matrix attribute. I can add and delete items but the problem I'm having is that there is no way to move items around. If not with fancy ajax, is there a somewhat elegant way to allow the user to re-order the matrix rows? thanks.

I've already tried out the sortable ezmatrix datatype template listed here:

http://ez.no/developer/contribs/template_plugins/sortable_ezmatrix_datatype

but it is more of a sort rather than individual level re-ordering.
