Introduction

Ok, it has been some time since the launch of eZ Market, it isn't what I was thinking it would be and it isn't going anywhere the way it is in the moment, let's talk about it.

First of all thanks for sharing your considerations and your proposals for eZ Market.
Some clarifications from my side: eZ Market is a B2B extension store and not a B2C store with shrinked wrapped plug&play installable apps (like i.e. AppStore).
The eZ Market extensions will either connect eZ Publish to 3rd party systems, make cloud services available to eZ publish or add additional functionality. There is typically a customization / consulting effort necessary in all of the 3 scenarios. The installation and customization of the eZ Market extensions require eZ Publish expertise and therefore we like this job be done by our certified partners.

The provision of an eZ Market extension requires careful preparation and quality checks. Its a great business modell for our partners to derive additional revenue in leveraging existing project developments via eZ Market. Customers will benefit from cheaper rates because the development costs can be shared among multiple users.

The eZ Market is open for everybody willing to sign an R&D agreement with eZ. The R&D agreement includes a kit with guidelines and best practices to build eZ Market extensions.

And yes, you are right - the start with 2 extensions is pretty compact :) We decided to start small in order to build the eZ Market as we go and to be open for good suggestions and improvements from interested people like you.
We have much bigger number already in the queue - stay tuned...

Hi Christof.

I'm upset because I was expecting something really new, the eZ market is nothing more than just the old certified extension area with a new name. But, anyway, could answer some questions? Is eZ market a success? Do you think it will be changed or the way it's now is better in the long run? Why?

Thanks anyway!

Hi Thiago

I wanted to give a partner perspective on the Market place. Personally I think it is a brilliant idea. A single location place where customers, partners and developers can come and see what certified extensions available.

There are a couple points:

  1. Extensions will take time to plan, get budget approval, execute and then certify and share. So I am not surprised that there are only a few extensions right now.
  2. There has not been a big history of paid extension creation in the eZ community. Most go to projects.ez.no. So change will come slowly

I love that you are upset that there are not enough extensions. Without people being emotionally invovled in the communtiy we will never see any change.

Can I ask that you always keep your expectations high for eZ and the Partners. We will do our best to live upto those expectations.

Kind Regards,

Tony

Ok, just to make this straight, you don't have to be an eZ partner in order to use eZ Market? A freelance eZP developer can use the market as long as he signs the R&D agreement and his extensions passes the certification?

Hi Marko,

the answer to your question "..you don't have to be an eZ partner in order to use eZ Market?" is:

You don't have to be an eZ Business Partner in order to create and provide extensions on eZ Market.
And yes - a freelance developer (or any other interested party) can sign the eZ R&D Partner agreement in order to certify his extension and provide it on eZ Market.

Typically we start the process after agreeing on a mutual mini-business case (one-page-document) where we conjointly examine if there is a interest for the extension, define the appropriate pricing model and have a look at the cost&revenue picture.

I think that the info about eZ Market should be more clear. If we look at it here:

one can easily get an impression that only business partners can sell extensions on eZ Market.

There should be a more detailed article about who and how can participate and a more detailed explanantion of the whole eZ Market concept/process. It's a little bit vague right now...

I see this like a football team and their supporters. I mean, supporters are really emotionally involved with the team, but if the team doesn't work properly, the prefer stay home and not going to the stadium...

maybe the question is what ez systems should do to have the community more emotionally involved with the eZ Market.

I second Jerome's question and add mine.

  • Where and when will find this R&D agreement?
  • Which are the conditions to have a extension ready to be part of the ez market?
  • How much will it cost the certification process?
  • Will be this cost a per extension one or will it depend on things like, who knows, number of code lines, number of php files or whatever?.

And as a customer...

what will we get "buying" extensions from the market? actually i use some projects.ez.no extensions and they do their job...

for instance, what's the difference between https://github.com/cjw-network/cjw_newsletter and the one provided in the market?

As Marko stated, there's no much info about all this at ez.no website...

Cheers.

Christof, this statement is in conradiction with what it's said on the ezmarket faq:

Could you elaborate/comment this one?
