EZ Publish for Movie Review Website, and License

Hello,

I have a couple of questions about EZ Publishing, as I am comparing it to a few other CMS before deciding if we should stay with our proprietary CMS or finally move to something more flexible, like EZ Publish. Two questions!

1) Do you think EZ Publish can be used for a website that is all built around a database of items? Let me make some examples; think about ign.com websites, that are all built around their game database. So basically, each article, cheat, review is related to a specific database item (a game). Or think about a website like IMDB.com, or gamecritics.com, and so on.
2) With the GPL license, if we need to modify some bits of EZ Publish for use within our website (not for redistribution), do we still need to make that part of the customized code public?

Thanks!

Hi Lorenzo,

eZ Publish would certainly suit that type of deployment. With the content class model you can define the structure of your objects. You can relate articles, cheats, reviews to a particular object within the system.

I believe with GPL licensing you aren't forced to redistribute your changes, but should you distribute your changes, then when you do so it is with the knowledge that those people can also redistribute it to whomever they wish.

If the GPL license doesn't fit your legal requirements you can opt for a perpetual proprietary license which is available with any support and maintenance subscription from eZ Systems.

Andrew, thanks for the fast and clear reply.

I have no problem with the GPL license, I asked because, for security reasons, we prefer to not redistribute or make public some parts of our code. Of course, if I have parts that have no problem sharing with others, I will promptly post them in the forums.

The licensing options are interesting! If we start making some little money we might go for one of them and resell some parts of the code we develop for our own website.

Thanks!

The good thing about GPL is you don`t need to make something public if you don`t want to.

But anyone who has the code is allow to make it public.

If none of those who have the code have interest to make it public you are fine.
