Hello!

I like to be up to date so today as I start new eZp project for our client I decided to use shiny eZ publish 3.8.

One of the requirements for the website is that both admin interface and website itself is in german. Well, I chose german as the only language during the installation and thought this will do the case (it did in <3.8).

Unfortunatelly admin interface stays in english!

I also checked the settings. To switch to german in 3.7 i changed the following in admin siteaccess site.ini.append:

[RegionalSettings]
Locale=ger-DE
ContentObjectLocale=ger-DE
TextTranslation=enabled

Now I have:

[RegionalSettings]
Locale=ger-DE
ContentObjectLocale=ger-DE
ShowUntranslatedObjects=enabled
SiteLanguageList[]=ger-DE
TextTranslation=enabled

and it doesn't work! :( The content is correctly set to german but I want to have the admin interface translated to german..

Could you guys please check out how this kind of installation adn settings act on your machines?

Hello Robert

Do you have any errors related to translation in the debug output?

Maybe you have a global override (in settings/override/site.ini.append) for those settings? I've used the settings you provided on an existing 3.8 admin site access and they work correctly here.

I checked settings and they are OK.

But I'm affraid that I have plenty of errors in debug output!

FIrst one is:

No translation for file(translation.ts) in context(lib/template): 'The maximum nesting level of 40 has been reached. The execution is stopped to avoid infinite recursion.' with comment()

Then I have LOTS of errors in the same scheme:

No translation for file(translation.ts) in context(kernel/navigationpart): 'Content structure' with comment(Navigation part)

No translation for file(translation.ts) in context(kernel/navigationpart): 'Media library' with comment(Navigation part)

(...)

Do you know what might cause this?

Can you check if you have a file share/translations/ger-DE/translation.ts and if the webserver has read permission on it?

Yes, it has.. :(

I also set chmod a+rwx for this file but still nothing I'm affraid. Maybe I should check some other permissions?

The translation system uses some kind of caching. Has the webserver the right permissions on the var directory (read/write/execute)?

Hi,

I've got exactly the same issue on an upgraded to 3.8 site. It was running under 3.6.5 and I followed the upgrade procedure, all seems to work fine except this point on admin panel translation.
This shouldn't be neither a "rights" issue since I gave full access to the webserver on concerned folders. My settings are like Robert but in french:

[RegionalSettings]
SiteLanguageList[]
SiteLanguageList[]=fre-FR
ShowUntranslatedObjects=enabled
Locale=fre-FR
ContentObjectLocale=fre-FR
TextTranslation=enabled

and the same debug messages:

No translation for file(translation.ts) in context(lib/template): 'The maximum nesting level of 40 has been reached. The execution is stopped to avoid infinite recursion.' with comment()
No translation for file(translation.ts) in context(design/admin/node/view/full): 'Show object relation overview.' with comment()
No translation for file(translation.ts) in context(design/admin/node/view/line): 'Click on the icon to get a context sensitive menu.' with comment()

lots of that kind, then the english version seems to be catched. However, the french file exists, is readable/writeable, contexts exist.

Did you manage to resolve yours and how?
I didn't get away from the upgrade procedure ( http://ez.no/doc/ez_publish/technical_manual/3_8/installation/upgrading/upgrading_from_3_6_x_3_7_x_to_3_8_0 ) , did I miss something more to take in consideration?
Thanks for any information and feedback

Alexandre

Hi,

I didn't solve that problem.. Eventually I decided to go with the latest version of eZp from the 3.7.x branch.

Now I'm working on a new project and I'm using eZp 3.8 in only one language - in Polish. It works very well so far but I have to put it in bold *I use only one language*.

What I don't like about 3.8 is the fact that by default most of the classes aren't shown in the admin interface tree navigator. You have to change this manually in ini files..

Also, there are no such basic files (in my opinion of course!) like override.ini.append in the siteaccess direcotry by default. That is a bad move if you ask me.

I understand that these changes may be thought over and really useful but I feel bad about the fact that eZp developers didn't document it properly. I had to learn about all of this from the forums. (And I did learn the changelog and announcement of 3.8!)

Don't get me wrong - I love what you guys came up with but I want to give you my feedback even if it's negative sometimes :)

Tomorrow, I'll be setting up a multilingual site on 3.8 and let you know how it went! I have some fresh ideas so it might work finally.

I have also gotten this problem a couple of times, it's always when I update ez translation files over a fresh install.

The only workaround has been to turn of TextTranslation completly.

I reported this back in january, but it's seems to be hard to reproduce.

My envirmont:
ez 3.7.7
APC 3.0.10
Apache 2.0.54
php 4.4.2
Debian 3.1 w / 2.6 kernel
