We have a few customers who have upgraded their computers to Vista. Then we start getting questions about Online Editor.

The last information I found about this is from Community Newsletter #4, 16th March 2007:

"Together with the new eZ Publish versions, we have released Online Editor 4.2.2 this week. This version includes a check for Windows Vista and Internet Explorer 7 and warns users about the incompatibility of the Online Editor with those versions. More information about support for Internet Explorer 7 on Windows Vista will follow."

Do anyone have any more information on this?

Hi.

Basically OE needs a rewrite to be able to work on Vista, and it needs a rewrite of several other reasons (xml, support for more browsers and so on).
This new version will be part of eZ Publish 4, but because the xml will change it will not be supported on eZ Publish 3.x out of the box.
The time frame for this is December / January, so any back porting will have to start after that.

Until then you could suggest firefox to those customers.

Alternatively I do have a prototype of TinyMce for eZ Publish 3.x in the work, but this is strictly a community effort and I will release it when it supports images and relations.

If someone else is interested in helping out, please shout out..

I wonder wether the incompatibility is more with Windows Vista than Internet Explorer 7. My tests with IE7 under <b>Windows XP</b> showed no problems.

But anyway, given the claim of being an <b>Enterprise</b> CMS, it should be a top priority for eZ to achieve full compatibility with Windows Vista. I'm not a Microsoft shareholder nor evangelist, but simply realistic ;-)

I think the users of the OS you describe have an excellent free alternative which provides excellent compatibility to the Online Editor in this brief interim before the next major release of eZ Publish + OE. <i>http://getfirefox.com/</i>

It's odd that you would be quite so derogitory towards those who have already explained so clearly the plan to providing the compatibility you desire. Besides the enlightened of us see the vista before users from a much more open view ...

Unfortunately on IE7 there is a problem with several areas like the logo file. On Firefox the entire logo is proper but IE it dissappears behind and looses part. On Firefox the larger logo simply moves the site links to an appropriate area, on IE it wants the links to only be in one place. Seems like that is part of the problem anyway. The other thing I'm noticing is that News Item summaries are losing some of the font (like it is being cut off) in IE.

I hope a fix is coming as many still use IE.
