Hello!

I have installed "eZ publish 3.3-3" today. The installation went fine.

The Problem is this. After I login to the site and click on any link the page just "refreshes". This occurres with every link except the one to the ezSystems web site.

Also, after logging in I see the same page a user would see even if I login as an Admin via the Admin login page.

Very strange.

What do I need to do to correct this situation??

Thanks for any and all responses.

Read this installation forum ;)
This error is common, if you use Apache 2 or if you use PHP as a CGI (not as an apache module).
If this is true for you, you will find hints and solutions here.

Hello!

This is the information for the site,

Apache version 1.3.29 (Unix)
Server API CGI

Can a "php.ini" file be placed into the same directory as the ezPublish files to correct this problem?

If yes, what should be placed in the "php.ini" file?

I find the patch on this forum to be confusing and with no instructions as to where to put the patch. Also, I feel, it involves a lot os work. It would be nice if exSystems looked at this problem since soooooooooo many people are having this problem and came up with an official patch which is placed in the official Installation Instructions.

Hi,
I think, the current "official statement" of ezSystems concerning PHP as a CGI is, that is is "not supported".
While it might work with the patch (which is from some community member, i think), it probably is quite slow, as CGI-calls are slower than using an apache module.
I guess, that this performance impact will not allow ezPublish to run on real-love production sites with PHP as CGI.

Maybe ezSystems will want to comment on this. Would it be possible to officially support PHP as CGI? What are the drawbacks?

Hello!

ezSystems should come up with an "Official Patch" for this problem. They should consider it in a positive light. Their program is listed as number one at HotScripts.com for a CMS program. Many people whould like to use it. Many people can only afford hosting which provides only PHP-CGI. That is a lot of people who cannot use the program because of this. Yes the program is free but a free program which is not workable will also not bring in paying customers who want to try the program out first or paying customers to buy the other programs like "Editor" that are used with ezPublish.

They only have to point out that the system will not run at max efficiency if a webmaster can only install on a PHP-CGI type of setting. These "so called" patches have minimal if any instructions and are therefore hard to implement. All the ezSystems folks do is point you to these unworkable and confusing patches.

I hope they consider providing a patch (with good clear instructions as to how to implement) or solution to this problem in the near future because it is really needed given the number of posts about problems caused by this one specific issue.

Just my 3 cents about it.

Please ezSystems respond.
