<b>A simple guide to upgrade eZ publish 3.9 to 3.10 (alpha1)</b>

I was asked to upgrade a site recently from 3.9.0 to 3.10 (alpha1).

If your interested in 3.10 take a look at the many improvements available in 3.10!
<i>http://ez.no/community/news/community_newsletter_9_20th_july_2007
http://pubsvn.ez.no/nextgen/trunk/doc/changelogs/3.10/unstable/CHANGELOG-3.9.0-to-3.10.0alpha1</i>

If you want to try 3.10alpha1 you may download a compressed archive or use svn,
<i>http://ez.no/download/ez_publish/ez_publish_3_unstable_releases/3_10/3_10_0alpha1
http://pubsvn.ez.no/nextgen/trunk</i>

To complete the upgrade to 3.10alpha1 here are the steps performed. <i>Be certain to have several complete backups of all your eZ Publish files before attempting this upgrade to the 3.10alpha1 unstable release!</i> Also be certain while performing each of the upgrade steps to watch for errors which may occur and must be resolved in order to upgrade successfully.

- Run upgrade sql file

mysql --user ezpublish --database ezpublish --password=publish < update/database/mysql/3.10/unstable/dbupdate-3.9.0-to-3.10.0alpha1.sql

- Run upgrade 'tip a friend' script

php update/common/scripts/3.10/updatetipafriendpolicy.php -s ezwebin_site_admin -l admin -p publish

- Run update 'update nice urls' script

php update/common/scripts/updateniceurls.php -s ezwebin_site_admin

- Run new clear cache script

./bin/php/ezcache.php --clear-all

- Test both the user and admin site to ensure a complete upgrade.

These steps worked well for me. If you know of anything missed feel free to comment.

Cheers!
Heath

Hello Heath,

Thank you for starting this conversation (in general)!

I still believe that most users would be best to avoid the 3.10alpha1 release.

The 3.10alpha1 is affected by a number of issues which can cause problems in a production or development installation.

Cheers,

Hello <i>kracker</i>

I think your right, a better goal at the moment would be to test the recent 3.10beta1 release. The 3.10beta1 release contains a number improvements which are well worth testing instead.

<i>News: http://ez.no/community/news/ez_publish_3_10_beta1_released
Changelog: http://pubsvn.ez.no/nextgen/trunk/doc/changelogs/3.10/unstable/CHANGELOG-3.10.0alpha1-to-3.10.0beta1
Downloads: http://ez.no/download/ez_publish/ez_publish_3_unstable_releases/3_10/3_10_0beta1</i>

The upgrade to 3.10beta1 is fairly simple, unpack the release and run the sql upgrade file (which seems to only increase the version number in the database)

- Run upgrade sql file

mysql --user ezpublish --database ezpublish --password=publish < update/database/mysql/3.10/unstable/dbupdate-3.10.0alpha1-to-3.10.0beta1.sql

- Run new clear cache script

./bin/php/ezcache.php --clear-all

- Test both the user and admin site to ensure a complete upgrade.

This thread exists in the hope to help other developers and users testing the very latest <i>unstable</i> release of eZ Publish 3.10.

We are not advocating the use of unstable releases in production in general.

Cheers,
Heath
