When browsing for a new location for a moving node, I can only select (with radio buttons) as the new parent a container under the root, but not the root itself. What if I want the root to be the new container for my node? Do I have to edit the ezcontentobject_tree table directly?

There should be an up arrow next to the root name, that will take you up another level. At this level, the choices are Root Node (name), Media, Setup Users, Design. You can then select the radio button next to your root node name to set that as the new location.
Interestingly, there is still an up arrow next to Top Level but it does not do anything for me.

Interesting, but I don't see any arrows in my content tree.Trying to find some secret ini file setting to show these arrows, I stumbled upon this setting in contentstructuremenu.ini:
[TreeMenu] RootNode=2
When I changed the value to 1 there appeared a root node with the name 'Top Level Nodes'.That did the trick!
